A Comprehensive Guide for Teachers
A Placement Test in MobyMax is a diagnostic assessment that determines where a student should begin their learning journey in a specific subject. It evaluates the student's current knowledge and skill level, then places them at the appropriate grade level within the curriculum.
Unlike regular lessons or practice activities, Placement Tests are diagnostic tools. They identify what a student already knows and, more importantly, what gaps exist in their understanding.
This distinction is critical: Placement Tests don't teach — they measure. The results then guide MobyMax to assign the right content at the right level.
A Placement Test sets the student's personal Learning Level — it determines where they should be working now based on their current abilities.
Placement Tests serve four essential purposes:
Without accurate placement, students either struggle with material that's too advanced or waste time on concepts they've already learned. Neither leads to effective learning.
Placement Tests are normally done when a student first starts using MobyMax. This establishes their baseline and ensures they begin at the correct level in each subject.
There are situations where assigning a new Placement Test makes sense after a student has already been using MobyMax:
If a student's progress in a grade has stopped going up — for example, they're stuck at 80% on a grade and not improving — this may indicate a gap in foundational knowledge.
You have two options:
If a student has been away from MobyMax for an extended time (holidays, illness, or other circumstances), their skills may have changed. In these cases, a full reset and starting fresh is often a good idea.
When a student first joins MobyMax, they need to complete placement tests to establish their baseline. Here's the process:

Placement Tests are diagnostic tools that determine a student's starting point in each subject. They are essential for ensuring students work at the right level — not too easy, not too hard.
The goal is simple: get students to the right level so they can learn effectively and make real progress.
